State guide
Small claims rules by state
Small claims is a simplified procedure in state court, not a case you file in United States District Court. The dollar cap, the court name, and what happens on appeal are different in every state. Some states use a court that is actually called small claims. Others use magistrate, justice, district, or general-sessions court for the same kind of case. Open a state to read the cap we could quote from an official page, the court that hears it, and the statute or self-help link. If a limit is missing, we did not retrieve an official number and we do not fill one in.
Try a ZIP like 30303, βTravis Countyβ or βColumbus, OHβ
